I think the bottom picture is of a broken sea anemone shell.

No, it isn’t a sea anemone. They don’t have shells. It is a sea urchin. Check out the reference in wikipedia – they have great pictures. This is a common creature in the coastal waters off the United States as well.

lucky you to be at Findhorn. My In-laws have a caravan a few hundred meters from the beach, I love it there and we try to get up a few times a year. The beach is amazing and always so quiet – it’s like your own private world.
We are so lucky to have such a beautiful coast line in Scotland, always guaranteed to blow away the cobwebs!
